How to Earn Extra Money Today

Dollar SignsThere are times in life where you just need to have extra money. Just because you need the money, though, doesn’t mean you know how to make it. In this article, we outline a few different ways to make extra money which are effective, easy, and maybe even fun.

Recycle your unused or unwanted items.

One of the quickest, easiest, and oldest ways to make money “on the side”, so to speak, is to sell items. This can generate quick cash without too much extra effort on your part. The easiest way to get started is to look around your house and see what you have lying around that might be worth something to another person. Maybe you just got a new microwave, so you have an older (but still functional!) model that you’re about to throw in a closet or hide in the basement. Instead of just letting that old microwave collect dust, you can sell it and make some extra money.

Enjoy Bargain Hunting?

If you find you really enjoy this and run out of things in your own house, you can scour yard sales and thrift stores for resalable items, or even watch for neighbors who are moving and throwing out a lot of good items. Often times all it takes to transform an item from trash to treasure is a good washing or a simple repair. Where can you sell all of these items? To start, use a listing site like craigslist, which will provide you with free listings and plenty of publicity. As you get better at turning trash into treasure, you can look for a stall at a local flea market or swap meet.

Where To Sell Your Items?

You can also try posting items for sale on online auction sites like eBay. These sites make it extremely easy to list items, and you stand a good chance at selling your item for a profit because there are so many users on the site. There are no set-up costs, and you don’t need to worry about web design or site maintenance. You just post your items, monitor the auction, and send the winners their prize.

Reverse to Selling?

If you like selling, you probably like shopping, which brings us to another great way to make extra money: mystery shopping. Companies will pay you to be a mystery shopper either at their store locations or on their websites. A mystery shopper is sent into a store or to a website, provided with money or gift cards to spend there, and told to shop. Mystery shoppers provide retailers and online sellers with valuable information about how their store operates and how customer-friendly the shopping experience is.

Mystery shopping isn’t a source of income, exactly. You may not be paid a salary to be a mystery shopper, but you will at least be allowed to keep the merchandise you buy. Since employers don’t usually put restrictions on what you buy, if you’re smart you can buy most of what you need or want on your mystery shopper missions; since you won’t have to buy those items, you’ll save a lot of money. If you can save extra money, you won’t necessarily have to earn extra money.
